Education Fund Scholarship

For the 2013-2014 Academic Year

PURPOSE

Current economic conditions in the United States and throughout the world have made the need for an undergraduate, graduate, or professional degree a most serious concern for today's student. The Polish Roman Catholic Union of America ("PRCUA") recognizes the necessity of financial assistance for students of undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs.

Therefore, PRCUA established the "Education Fund Scholarship Program" for eligible students. The Education Fund Scholarships will be awarded with the purpose of providing financial assistance to students to earn undergraduate, graduate or professional degrees.

SCOPE

The following Education Fund Scholarships are currently available:

ONE-TIME
  In Memory of Alexander, Ann, John, and Walter Kushel
$1,500 to be used for the study of Religious Formation
 
  In Memory of Victoria Kushel
$1,500 to be used for the study of Nursing (one $1,000 and one $500)
 
 

 
PERPETUAL
  In Memory of Adele Szumilus Sularski
No specific major area of study has been established
 
  Polish Roman Catholic Union of America Education Fund
The Board of Directors establish Scholarships as funds are available.
 
 

PRCUA will offer several scholarships that will be awarded once a year to applicants. Scholarships are renewable through the yearly application process. Students may apply each year. However, students may only receive three (3) yearly scholarships during their lifetime. Only one (1) application per student will be reviewed per year. Scholarships are specific to the school and educational program named in the application.

SCHOLARSHIP PERIOD

Applications must be received by July 1st. Please do not handwrite your answers (this could disqualify your application). Since you can now complete the application on the website please type it up on the computer, if you do not have a computer please make sure the applications are typed. Only applications that are typed or PRINTED from the computer and postmarked by the July 1st deadline will be eligible.     (Please do not submit resumes). Awards will be announced by August 15th.  PRCUA will accept NO late applications.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Application must be completed in its entirety (Do not submit resumes)

Verification of current grade point average must be attached (Official School Transcripts)

Verification of Polonian involvement must be included

Verification of community service must be included

Applicants must have successfully completed their freshman year of undergraduate studies before the deadline for filing for an application.  An OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT (not on-line copies from the school’s website) must be attached to the completed application form or sent directly by the Educational Institution along with the correct mailing address of the Financial Aid Department of the School (in case you are awarded a scholarship) to the PRCUA on or before the deadline of July 1st.  If the student changes Schools after submission of their application it is the responsibility of the student to inform the Scholarship Committee of this information before August 1st.

Eligible applicants consist of sophomores, juniors, and seniors enrolled full-time in undergraduate study or those students enrolled in graduate or professional degree program. Full-time enrollment shall conform to those guidelines established by the federal financial aid program. (A minimum of twelve (12) credit hours for day students or eight (8) credit hours for evening students.) Part-time graduate or professional students are eligible.

AWARD PROCESS

Selection of award recipients will be made by an appointed committee from the educational/business/legal community independent of the PRCUA. All decisions of the committee will be final.

Selection criteria will include, but not be limited to, scholastic average, Polonia involvement, and community service. Judging will be based upon the completed application information.

   
3 Recipients of PRCUA Education Scholarships are eligible to apply for PRCUA educational loans.

The PRCUA reserves the right to modify, suspend or terminate this program at its discretion without prior notice. Such actions will not affect those awards currently in process.

AWARD PAYMENT

All awards will be made payable to the institution rather than to the individual.

Completed applications become the property of the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America Education Fund, Inc. All information submitted on the application is considered confidential and will not be duplicated and only discussed within the scholarship committee.
