Winners of The Polish Museum of America
Polish Constitution Art Contest

The Polish Museum of America located in Chicago, Illinois held its annual Polish Constitution Art Contest. This year’s topic was “On the 70th Anniversary of the death of Maria Curie Sklodowska draw a picture depicting Madame Curie and one of her accomplishments.”

The contest was opened to students in grades 6 through 12. Entries came from the following schools: St. Juliana, Immaculate Conception, John H. Kinzie, Smyser, Lane Tech High School, John F. Kennedy High School and Steinmetz Academic Centre from the Chicago area, Conrady Jr. High from Palos Hill, Illinois, St. Bernadette from Evergreen Park, Illinois, Resurrection High School from Harwood Heights, Illinois, Nashville Community High School from Dubois, Illinois, Morgan Art Studio, Maria Konopnicka Polish Language School, Prve’ Sukromne’ Gymnazium from Lucenec, Slovakia and one home school.

The judges were Bohdan Gorczynski, Director of Exhibits at The Polish Museum of America and Halina Misterka, Archivists of The Polish Museum of America and Choreographer of the Lajkonik Dance Group. Criteria that the judges considered were size, medium used and creativity.

  3rd Place Andrew Jarzabek-John H. Kinzie School  
  Honorable Mention Karolina Mocarski-Morgan Art Studio  
       
 

Grade 9-12

 
  1st Place Daniel Williams-Prve Sukromne Gymnazium  
  2nd Place Irmina Stec-Lane Tech High School  
  3rd Place Jadwiga Szczechowicz-John F. Kennedy High School  
  Honorable Mention Chawanan Kamchoo-Nashville Community High School  

All winning entries, as well as some of the non-winning entries, will be displayed on the museum’s float in the Polish Constitution Day Parade held on Saturday, May 1st beginning at 11:30 a.m. The Parade route is on Columbus Drive from Balboa northward to Monroe.
