HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 71st
NATIONAL BOWLING TOURNAMENT
The 71st National PRCUA
Bowling Tournament was held on April 25-27, 2008, at Laurel Lanes in Maple
Shade, New Jersey. One-hundred avid and serious bowlers came to bowl! This
was evidenced by several honors scores and topped off by Jim Faunce’s
OUTSTANDING 300 GAME! He was rewarded for his efforts with a $500 check from
the PRCUA.
The opening ceremonies
began at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, with Resident Vice-President, Anna
Sokolowski, introducing the dignitaries. Present were: President Wallace and
Mrs. Joann Ozog; Vice-President Robert Bielenda and wife, Eleanor; Resident
Vice-President Anna Sokolowski and husband, Mark; Secretary-Treasurer Joyce
Szarowicz and husband, Walter; National Chaplain Fr. Walter Ptak; District 2
Director Bill Nowakowski; District 3 Directors Joanne Zajac and Edward
Kaplaniak; District 6 Director Sharon Haberski and husband Steve; District 7
Director Lillian Stempinski. Also present were President Emeritus Edward
Dykla, and past Director Connie Bonin.
President Wallace Ozog
opened the tournament by rolling the first ball. A majority of the pins
fell, getting the tournament off to a positive start. Laurel Lanes was a
fine venue for this tournament; this house was staffed by a fine crew and
good management.
Many thanks are extended to
District 3 Director, Joanne Zajac, and her committee for hosting this
tournament. They provided the bowlers with a first-class Meet and Greet
social on Thursday evening. The entertainment was provided by The Mummers, a
local organization noted for their music, costumes and revelry. Friday
evening included a bus trip to Atlantic City. Saturday evening’s “A Taste of
Philly” buffet was a big hit! Melodies were provided by the Music Box Band.
Special thanks to our
National Chaplain, Fr. Walter Ptak, for saying Mass at the hotel.
Thanks to Resident
Vice-President Anna Sokolowski and her Executive Secretary, Mary Jane
Robles, my wife Lillian, and son Paul, for all their help in making this
tournament a success.
All are invited to join us,
District 5 Director Joan Sylak and her committee for the 72nd National
Bowling Tournament in Toledo, Ohio. The dates will be announced in a future
issue of the Narod Polski. My sincere thanks to all who participated in this
event. This is your tournament. Hope to see you in Toledo next year. The
checks are in the mail.
