PRCUA Scholarships Under Review

This year, the PRCUA received 31 eligible applications for the PRCUA Scholarship Grant and 11 eligible applications for the PRCUA Scholarship Fund. The applications are currently being reviewed by the judges. The scholarships will be announced in the September Naród Polski edition and each student will be contacted.

New England Fraternal Alliance 2017 Scholarship Program

Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded by the New England Fraternal Alliance to students in their sophomore, junior, or senior year in college or in graduate school. To be eligible, an applicant must be New England resident and a member (or son/daughter of a member) of a fraternal benefit society that holds a membership in the New England Fraternal Alliance, such as the PRCUA.

Polish Language Classes for Adults Returning in November!

Chicago, IL – Returning on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, the PRCUA will once again host weekly Polish language classes for adults from 6-8pm.

The program will extend to the end of May 2017 and will be taught by Halina Szyrzyna, an accredited Polish language teacher and Principal of the John Paul II Polish Language School in Lemont, IL.

Tuition for PRCUA Members – Free; Tuition for non-PRCUA members – $150.00.

PRCUA Awards 39 Scholarships!

The Polish Roman Catholic Union recognizes outstanding undergrad, graduate, and professional degree students by annually awarding scholarships for higher education. After evaluating submitted applications, the Scholarship Committee (Michaleen Lamont, Maria Ciesla, Elaine Robaczewski, and Elizabeth Sadus) has awarded 39 students with in scholarships and grants. All applications were reviewed anonymously and awards were based on merit.

PRCUA Scholarship Applications are in!

The August edition of the Narod Polski will announce the students’ names and the scholarship amounts awarded to each.

PRCUA Funds for Higher Education Available

Each year, the PRCUA offers funds for higher education to its members from three separate programs: 1) PRCUA Education Fund, Inc.; 2) Scholarship Program; and 3) PRCUA Educational Loans. Each program requires the submission of a separate application.

One-Time Scholarships
In Memory of Alexander, Ann, John, and Walter Kushel
$1,500 to be used for the study of Religious Formation

In Memory of Victoria Kushel
$1,500 to be used for the study of Nursing
(one $1,000 and one $500)

In Memory of Dr. Stanley A. Ozog
Available for the study of Osteopathic Medicine,
Pre-Medicine or Nursing

Perpetual Scholarship
In Memory of Adele Szumilus Sularski
No specific major area of study has been established

Also, the PRCUA Board of Directors can establish additional scholarships as funds are available.

Support our youth by supporting the PRCUA Education Fund, Inc.

The PRCUA Education Fund, Inc. is a non-profit organization under the laws of the State of
Illinois. It is a 501©(3) organization under the Internal Revenue Service Code. Its purpose is to
provide financial assistance to students seeking undergraduate, graduate or professional degrees.

Who is eligible to apply?
Applicants consist of eligible PRCUA members who are sophomores, juniors and seniors enrolled full-time in undergraduate studies or those students enrolled in graduate or professional degree programs. Full-time enrollment shall conform to those guidelines established by the federal financial aid program. (A minimum of twelve (12) credit hours for day students or eight (8) credit hours for evening students.) Part-time graduate or professional students are also eligible. On occasion, assistance could be given to non-PRCUA members.

How can I donate to, or establish a scholarship in my own name, as part of the PRCUA Education Fund, Inc.?
1.   You can make a donation in any denomination that will be directed to the PRCUA Education Fund, Inc. and used for educational purposes as directed by the Board.
2.   You can make a one-time donation of $1,000 to $24,999 to establish a scholarship(s) in your own name – as your personal legacy or “In Memory of” or “In Honor of” an individual or organization. It will be distributed in one year, or divided over a period of years, to students in the areas of study that you designate.
3.   You can establish a PERPETUAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND in your own name by making a donation of $25,000 or more in capital deposits within a 12 month period. The income generated from this donation will be used to award scholarships to students in a specific area of study as designated by you. A perpetual scholarship can also be established to honor or memorialize someone special.

What kind of donations can be made to the PRCUA Education Fund, Inc.?
Donations can be made in the form of cash, checks, real estate property, stocks and securities, gifts of future interest, insurance, wills, trusts.

Can donations be made “In Memory of” of “In Honor of” an individual or organization?
This program provides an opportunity for you to memorialize or honor a special person or group and make a positive impact in the future of a college bound student. By donation $1,000 or more, you can establish a scholarship in your own name or “In Memory/Honor of” an individual or organization.

What are the criteria used for evaluating applications and awarding scholarships?
If not specified by the donor, selection criteria will include, but not be limited to: scholastic average, involvement in the Polish American community, local community service, individual financial need and availability of funds. Judging will be based upon the information submitted in the student’s completed application.

For what studies are the funds used?
Scholarships are awarded for studies in Accounting, Business Administration, Engineering, Liberal Arts,  Polish Studies, Political Science, Religious Formation, the Medical Field, etc.
