This October, as we celebrate Polish American Heritage Month and the 250th anniversary of the United States, our annual coloring contest shines a spotlight on Polish contributions to American history. Two remarkable Polish figures played important roles in the founding of our nation: Generals Tadeusz Kościuszko and Kazimierz Pułaski. Both were Polish noblemen trained as military leaders and deeply committed to the cause of freedom. When political circumstances in Poland forced them to leave their homeland, they brought their military knowledge and experience to America, where they joined the fight for independence from British rule. Both Kościuszko and Pułaski became generals in the Continental Army and put their skills to work on the battlefield. Kościuszko, a talented military engineer, designed important defensive positions and fortifications, including those at West Point, a key Revolutionary War garrison that later became the site of the United States Military Academy. Pułaski organized his own Cavalry Legion, helping establish the foundations of American cavalry and earning him the title “Father of the American Cavalry.” Today, we remember Kościuszko and Pułaski as Polish American “heroes of two countries,” men who helped shape the history of both Poland and the United States.
Now it’s your turn to bring their stories to life! Grab your crayons, colored pencils, or markers, let your creativity shine, and show us your best work! We await your entries – prizes and gifts will be awarded to winners in multiple age categories!
