As we gather together with family and friends to celebrate this joyous holiday season, we use this time of year to reflect on the meaning of life, give thanks for the little things and think about the future.

One of my favorite traditions revolves around the Bishop of Myra, from the 4th century, or as we know him today, St. Nicholas. St. Nicholas is the patron saint of children, sailors, charitable fraternities and guilds and is known for his reputation for generosity and kindness. December 6th is observed as the Feast of St Nicholas, and in his honor, the tradition of placing coins or candy in children’s shoes was started. I’m not sure about you, but I always looked forward to the candy. LOL
