The Polish Roman Catholic Union of America warmly welcomes a new Polish educational institution – the Zbigniew Herbert School of Polish Language and Culture – to the organization.

The Herbert School is located in Palos Heights, IL in the Chicago Christian High School building. Classes are held on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm. The Principal of the school is Irena Woźniak, whom we thank for the enthusiasm and excellent cooperation.

The Herbert School implements the educational program based on the Core Curriculum for Students Studying Polish Abroad issued by the Ministry of National Education in 2010. The school also prepares for the Polish language exam. The certificate of Polish as a foreign language is the only state document certifying knowledge of the Polish language. The school offers religious education in Polish and also provides additional classes, after school activities, and interest groups.

The school’s patron is Zbigniew Bolesław Ryszard Herbert (born on October 29, 1924 in Lviv, died on July 28, 1998 in Warsaw) – a Polish poet, essayist, playwright, creator of the famous poetry series “Mr. Cogito,” author of radio plays. An economist, lawyer and philosopher by profession, he was also granted Knight of the Order of the White Eagle.

His books have been translated into 38 languages. He was a well-known and esteemed poet in Poland and abroad and winner of over twenty literary awards.

At the end of 2019, the Herbert School became partially funded for its activities by the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America, with plans for full funding. Forty students have already joined the PRCUA family. Each of them received a discount in tuition fees from the school.

On Saturday, December 7, PRCUA Marketing Director Elżbieta Sawczuk had the honor of participating in the school’s “Pasowanie na ucznia” ceremony, during which the first grade students took the traditional oath as officially becoming students. Congratulations to all first graders, wishing them the best grades and joy every day at the Polish School.

We welcome all to the PRCUA and encourage students, parents and teachers to familiarize themselves with the extensive PRCUALife financial products portfolio, as well as with a number of additional member benefits on the prcua.org website or by calling (800) 772 8632.
